HASTINGS-ON-HUDSON, NY — Officer Sam Brecker of the Hastings Police Department holds a saxophone that belonged to his father, Michael Brecker, a jazz musician who won 15 Grammy Awards and who died of leukemia in 2007, at age 57. In honor of his father, the 24-year-old will host a bone marrow donor registration event on Saturday, Sept. 23, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Hastings Municipal Building. Tessitore, 27, is the founder and president of the JCK Foundation, which is named after his mentor, John Cleaver Kelly, who suffered from a severe OCD and who took his own life in 2011 at age 24. The foundation aims to “educate and mentor students with OCD and other mental health disorders,” according to its website.
