During his senior year of high school, Tim Lamorte had to decide between becoming a forest ranger, like Smokey Bear, or a journalist, which his fifth grade teacher, Sister Helen Bryant, suggested. He followed Sister Helen’s advice. Tim has since earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in journalism as well as dozens of awards for photography and reporting from the New York Press Association (NYPA) and the National Press Photographers Association. In the NYPA’s annual contest, he has placed first, second or third in the photographer of the year category five times since 2008. Tim lives in Westchester County, N.Y., where he has worked as a journalist since 1996. He welcomes all assignments as well as guidance from nuns.
